Ban on New Year’s Eve Fireworks
The Health Service, health care workers and emergency staff are under immense pressure due to the number of patients critically ill with the corona virus. For this reason, the Dutch cabinet has decided that fireworks will not allowed to be sold or set off during this New Year’s Eve 2020-2021.

Bonfires prohibited
Bonfires will also be prohibited. A cozy fire in your own front or back garden is allowed, as longs as it is without any hindrance to the immediate area.

Holiday rubbish bin collection services
During the holidays, the service provider for the bin collection will be operating on adjusted timetables. They are moving Friday December 25 (Christmas
Day) to Monday December 28 (residual waste, organic waste and PMD). Friday January 1 (New Year’s Day) will move to Saturday January 2 (residual waste).

Recycling centre Hogeboomseweg
On Friday 25 december (Christmas Day), Saturday 26 december (Boxing Day) and Friday 1 januari (New Year’s Day) the recycling centre at the Hogeboomseweg will be closed. On Thursday 24 december and Thursday 3 december they close earlier, at 16:00 o’clock/4 PM. For more information, please visit www.avalex.nl.

Closing rubbish bins
The underground containers will be closed on New Year’s Eve from 6:00 PM until New Year’s Day at 8:00 AM. The aboveground containers for PMD, textiles and paper will also be closed from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day.

Christmas trees
Due to the Corona virus, the annual Christmas tree collection has been cancelled. Starting on Wednesday 6th January, you can leave your Christmas tree on the pavement in front of your house, where you would normally leave your rubbish bin. The Christmas trees will be removed by the municipality and Avalex.

Opening Hours Municipality
The municipality will be closed on Friday December 25, 2020 and on Friday January 1, 2021.

Letter from Mayor Leendert de Lange
During the week preceding Christmas, our Mayor Leendert de Lange sent a letter to all residents of Wassenaar. In this letter, he reflects on the unusual times we have lived in over this past year. The mayor also expressed his gratitude to everyone in Wassenaar on behalf of the aldermen and the members of the city council for their contribution in fighting the virus in the past year.
